Based on this admission, should his career be viewed as being tainted? Should his record for the most homeruns in a season be erased from the record books? Should he be allowed to return to baseball as a coach? (due 1/17)

I don't think that anyone that has admitted to using steroids during their professional athletic career should be able to keep their hall of fame record. also if Mr. McGwire wants to be a coach he should have to give drug screenings to his players and give the results to the MLB committee reguarly. it is not a question of wether or not his career should be condidered tainted, its that his career is tainted with drug use and lies to not only the MLB but to his fans and the fans of any team he has played for or will coach
ReplyDeleteMark McGwire is one the most famous baseball players ever. He has hit as many homeruns any one in the game. Although he used steriods, while he was in the game, he made it very fun. I watched his interview and if you really do look at his swing, the steriods do not help a swing, they help power. His swing was good in the beginning, and only got better as he was in the league. His record should not be erased, because everybody uses or has used steriods at least once. And he should be able to come back as a coach because he knows how the game is played. The steriods do not change the game only what happens and he knows what to do.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that Mark Mcgwire should have an asterik next to his name forever because of what he did with performance enhancing drugs. I don't think his record should be erased because at the time he "saved baseball." Baseball was a sport that was fading away that summer that Mark Mcgwire and Sammy Sosa hit it off in the race for 61. The players strike had recently taken place a few years back and people were starting to lose their interest in the game. Both these players brought something for the fans, players, and the game to be excited about. So even though they are cheaters, we all make mistakes and i don't think their records should be erased and they should no doubtedly be able to coach in Major League Baseball.
ReplyDeleteit is obvious that his career should be viewed as tainted. he cheated. he knowlingly uses steroids when he knew they were illegal and now hes trying to make up for what he did by confessing it 10 years later. Its kind of hard to erase his record of most homeruns in a season because it kind of already happened. I can say the same thing for Barry Bonds and his records an Alex Rodriguiz and his records. you cant erase them but you can put a footnote on them saying that these records were only accomplished through steroids.
ReplyDeleteI do think Mark McGwire's career should be tainted. It is illegal to do steroids and he did them. Also, during the best years of his career, he used them. His record for homeruns in a season should be erased, because that is one of the years he admitted to using them. I do think he should be allowed to return to baseball as a coach because he did it as a player and that should not affect his coaching. If the league thinks he is going to give other players steroids then he should not be allowed back, but it seems like he feels remorseful and he should get a second chance.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that Mark Mcgwire career should be tantied. I dont not believe though that he should lose his reccords that he has achieved during his career. I do belive though that thier should be an asterik placed by his name in the record books. Barry Bonds has had an asterik placed by his name for the use of seriods during his career so it is only far that Mark has one as well.
ReplyDeleteI believe everyone that played the game during the steroid era will have their career tainted, clean or not. Even the players we believed to be clean such as Roger Clemmons and A- Rod have admitted to using PED's. I don't believe that his record should be erased however. In 1998 McGwire and Sosa had the summer that saved baseball. The MLB will forever be indebted to them for saving the league. The authorities of the league can not change the records now, because they knew what was going on while it was happening, but they decided to turn a blind eye to the situation.
ReplyDeleteI think Mark McGwire's career should be tainted,i think everyone should know what happened, when looking back upon it years from now, but I don't think his record should be erased. He changed baseball, and you can't just erase history. I think he should be allowed back as a coach, because he knows what he's doing, he won't be in the game, so I don't think it matters.
ReplyDeleteMark McGwire's career is absolutely tainted. He used steroids to give him the edge and push that extra mile. Even with this in mind, I believe Mark McGwire should not have his record erased. Since he apologized, I think the best we can do is forgive him and even let him coach baseball.
ReplyDeleteI think that Mark McGwire's career is most definitely tainted. Being the amazing athlete that everyone thought he was, he used steroids. In my opinion, steroids are just like cheating on a test at school. He did not use his natural abilities or talents to get to where he is today, and he is not the hero that we thought he was. However, he did apologize. We are always taught to give second chances. I think that his Hall of Fame records should be expunged; however, I also believe that he can turn his mistake into a positive thing and make up for it by educating people about the dangers of steroids.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that anyone who uses steroids should not be able to keep their records, that's basically cheating and no one likes cheaters. He may have apologized, but that still doesn't skip the fact that he used them. He still should be allowed to teach though. He could maybe take what he's done and turn it into an experience that he could warn others from. He's a good played, but the fact that he used steroids made his career tained I think.
ReplyDeleteHis records shouldnt be kept... he completely cheated which is ridiculous. If you're going to win something do it right, clearly he didn't. Any record he set isn't really a record anyway because it was all a fake because of the use of steroids. As far a coaching goes, he can go for it. He's played the game and knows what he's doing, so he should be allowed to coach others on how to play the game.
ReplyDeleteI think that his records should definatly be tainted. He cheated so they cannot be counted as his normal stats because of that. If he had done it on his own without steroids it would be a different situation. And I dont think he deserves to be able to return as a coach because he could set an example of steroids using for his players and lead to further problems. Overall I think his stats should be erased and he shouldnt return to the game of baseball.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that Mark McGwire's career should be considered tainted. McGwire used steriods and went against the rules. Why should he have his name in the record books if he cheated in order to reach that point? Even if he did "save baseball" at a time when it was at a low, it doesn't change the fact that he used steriods. I don't see any problem with him returning as a coach. As long as he follows the rules and does a good job as a coach, I don't see why he couldn't be a coach.
ReplyDeleteYes, i do believe his career was tainted. He should not be able to keep his homerun records because he achieved them by cheating. He took the homerun record away from the players who played fair and rightly deserved the record for their hard work. However, I do believe he should be able to coach becuase his past steriod use as a player shouldnt affect him from becoming a coach in the present.
ReplyDeleteI believe his career was tainted by this. Taking something to increase the odds in your own favor is basically the definition of cheating. His record should be taken out of history, because records are meant to be broken, but with at least some chance of another to break it naturally, and not with any performance-enhancing aids. I really think he should be allowed back into the league as a coach or player, because if he's openly admitting this, the chances are low that he'll take the risk again.
ReplyDeleteI think his career obviously was tainted. Any record of any achievemnt he made in this sport should not be recognized anymore. He made the choice to risk being caught to do these steroids and he should have to suffer the consequences no matter what. He achieved this record while using the steroids which means he didnt really earn the recognition he recieved. He used the steroids for whatever reason but he could have notified people of his use and worked something out to keep playing or made a choice of baseball or steroids. He's betrayed his loyal fans and his teammates/coaches. He should not be allowed to return as a coach because of his past. Everyone says they learn a lesson but they do not always change how they live due to that lesson. If he does return to be a coach, he and his team should have to be drug tested often. If one of his players turns up positive for drugs, McGwire should have to be investigated to see if he influences the player to use such drugs.
ReplyDeleteYes, his career should deffinately be viewed as tainted because it infact was. Though McGwire did use performance enhancing drugs his achievements should not be erased, but simply should be noted and looked upon as unauthentic. To the people that did not win against him, should be brought up again for better recognition for what should have been an earned record. And I also believe he should be able to coach baseball ,because from his experiences and dissppointments he has brought to so many people he could help those players now that might be using. McGwire's past mistakes should not pentalize him now. What happened, happened, and it is obvious he is regretful of it, or he would not of confessed.
ReplyDeleteI do not think Mark should have his numbers looked down upon. First of all you can be the strongest guy in the world, but if you do not have hand/eye cordination then you will not be able to crush the ball like barry bonds, sammy sosa, mark mcguire. He should be praise for having the courage to admit he took steroids and should be a head coach sometime in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI think that his career should be viewed as tainted. I also think that his records should be erased because he cheated the guys that play fair and actually deserve it should get the record. I think he should be aloud to return as a coach because at least he was man enough to admit that he was using so I think he deserves a second chance.
ReplyDeleteHe can be allowed to come back as a coach but he should never enter the hall of fame as a player. He cheated the game the fans and himself. He has become a joke and that will never change. Someone that uses those drugs for any reason should never be given a second chance at the game because it is a disgrace to all of us who play the game the right way for the right reasons.
